Mermaid Diagrams With Requirement TreeView Links

 

OpenRose now allows users to click any node inside an exported Mermaid flowchart and jump directly into the TreeView, giving instant access to the full project hierarchy without navigating through individual detail pages. This upgrade makes Mermaid diagrams interactive, intuitive, and far more useful for real‑world requirements work.

What This New Feature Does

OpenRose has always provided two core navigation modes:

  • TreeView — a complete hierarchical view of your project
  • Detail View — focused, one‑record‑at‑a‑time inspection

TreeView is where users get the full picture: expandable nodes, relationships, and the ability to edit requirements in context. But until now, Mermaid diagrams exported from OpenRose always linked back to the Detail View. That meant extra clicks and breadcrumb navigation.

With TreeView URL links enabled, every node in your Mermaid diagram becomes a direct jump into the TreeView. Users can click a requirement and instantly see:

  • where it sits in the hierarchy
  • its parent and sibling items
  • all related sub‑requirements
  • the full project context

This makes Mermaid diagrams not just visual summaries, but interactive navigation tools.

How It Works

When exporting a Mermaid flowchart, you now have an additional option:

  • Generate TreeView URL Links

If enabled, OpenRose adds a small parameter to each link in the Mermaid output. That parameter tells OpenRose to open the clicked requirement in TreeView instead of Detail View.

If disabled, links behave the traditional way and open the Detail View.

This gives users full control depending on how they want to present or explore their project.

Example: Mountain Trekking Project

Imagine a project with mountains from Europe, Africa, North America, South America, and Asia. The Asian section includes detailed planning information such as:

  • visa requirements
  • equipment lists
  • accommodation details
  • safety considerations

If you export only the Asia → Everest Base Camp section into a Mermaid diagram, you still get full navigation. Clicking any node — even though it came from a partial export — takes you to the correct place in TreeView.

OpenRose automatically understands:

  • which project the requirement belongs to
  • where it sits in the hierarchy
  • how to open it in TreeView

This works without exporting the entire project. You can export a small subset, and TreeView navigation still functions perfectly.
